Parents Letter
Hello Parents,
It has been an exciting start to the year so far. Summer camps were amazing and have launched us into some curriculum that will encourage and challenge us. You will soon have access to what we are learning each week as we continue to build on our communication with you as the primary shepherd.
As we continue to head into the fall semester, I want to remind us of our purpose: To connect students with a Life with God, a Life with Others and a Life with Purpose. Mid-week Get a Life seeks to connect students with a Life with God and a Life with Others. Each night, we take relevant topics and scripture and dive into it together. The night consists of much needed connectivity to each other as well as much needed connectivity to God.
In order to do this, we must be prepared to dive into God’s word. Starting next week (9/9/2009 – 9/10/2009) we are asking all of our students to bring their Bible to Get a Life. In order grow and become a mile deep, it is important to be in the Word. We will be diving into the Word every night as well as praying out loud together.
The author Luke records it best. In Luke 2, he says that Mary and Joseph were in Jerusalem for the Feast of Passover. When they looked around, they realized they had lost the boy Jesus. When they went searching for him, they found him in the Temple, learning from the teachers. Luke then writes, “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men (Luke 2:52).”
This must be our goal for these students. For them to grow in wisdom and stature and in favor with God! In order to grow in God, we must be readers of his Word. Therefore, we will need every student to bring a Bible to Get a Life. We will provide some for use in case they have brought a friend or in case they forget. This is such a pertinent issue that we will have a “Three Strikes Rule.” If a student comes, unprepared (without a Bible) for three nights, then they will not be invited inside the house for group.
I understand what a difference this may be. In the same light, if a student shows up to football practice without their helmet or shoulder pads, they are not able to participate. The same thing is true with baseball, basketball or band practice. No gear = No play. We want these students to grow in their walk with God. In order to do that, we are trying to stress the importance of God’s Word.
The goal is to see them grow in wisdom and stature. It’s to create a passion and desire for His word never before seen in their lives. We want to make God real for them. I hope that we can partner together in this goal. Once again, you are the primary shepherd in their lives and I want to come along side of you in ministry. If you need anything from me, I am here to help assist you in ministry. Feel free to email me or call me. Thank you so much for the opportunity to serve you and your student.
